newborn pullbacks | dallas newborn photographer

newborn sessions are not easy.  they require traveling to the clients home where you have absolutely no idea what the lighting situation will be like.  they require toting around background stands, bean bags, blankets, hats + a variety of other props.  they require lots of patience.  and it takes time to learn how to properly pose them….something i feel like i am still trying to master.  but seeing posts like this from other photographers has been an enormous help!  i am a visual learner….if i see it, i can do it…or at least attempt it.  lol  i hope this post will be valuable to those who adore newborn sessions as much as i do.

*all images were taken with a canon 40D + 85mm 1.8 with the exception of the pullback images, which were taken with the 24-70mm 2.8L

SO fun! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing!! :)

Thank you so much! Very helpful. if you don’t mind me asking, what are you using under the blanket—boppy, pillow, towels???

I am also a visual learner and I’m just now getting into newborn photography. This helps so much!! Thanks for sharing!

shawna, i roll up bathroom towels and place them under all the blankets to help pose the baby :)

Amy

Sara – Thank you so much! I have a question. When you bump the ISO up to 800 like in the photo above, what do you use to reduce the noise? Thank you so much for the visual aids!

saraseeton

Amy, I use noiseware.

Amy

Thanks Sara. Is that a stand alone program by that name?

Thank you Sara for this great post – I always love seeing pullbacks, SOOC and edit shots! Love all of your blanket colors and I especially love how you edited that floor on the last shot! A tutorial for that would be a fantastic post sometime in the future if you were willing to share. :)

Question: where do you purchase most of your blankets?

Barb

Thank you for sharing these tips! Can’t wait to try it out!

saraseeton

amy, i use the noiseware plug-in from imagenomic.

saraseeton

mindy, for the floor i used the clone tool as well as a large soft brush to help blend and fade.

saraseeton

becky, i get my blankets from all over the place….ikea, target, tuesday morning, tj maxx, ross, home goods….i have a great friend in canada who sent me one, it’s actually my favorite right now (thanks petula!) and another that i borrowed from my mother-in-law! hehe i promise to give it back some day ;) i’ve always got my eyes peeled for great blankets.

Great entry- thanks for sharing!! What kind of a stand do you use? The legs on the tripods look wider than I have seen– looks nice and sturdy!

saraseeton

i have this stand.

thank you so much for sharing. i was wondering if that bag in the first picture to the left is your camera bag, and if so what kind it is? TFS

saraseeton

yes romina, it’s a kelly moore classic bag in grey :) i love it.

This is great, Sara! I love peeking in on other’s newborn sessions! And SO cool that you were able to use your client’s hardwood floors… score!

Thanks for sharing, I am a visual learner myself.

Thank you for sharing! I am a visual learner too so this is very helpful!

Lovely images. What do you use for your edits? Your newborn photography edits in particular are really pretty. Thanks, keep up the good work
